Braam van Straaten


Braam is one of the most renowned players in South Africa, having played an astounding 408 first class games in a career spanning over 17 years.

He played in 21 tests for the Springboks and was part of the 1999 World Cup squad. Locally he represented the Bulls, SWD Eagles, Falcons, Western Province, Stormers and Griquas. Whilst with Western Province he won back to back Currie Cups, scoring 24 of the Province’s 29 points in the 2001 final.

In the UK, Braam played for Leeds and the Sale Sharks.

Another highlight of his illustrious career is that he played for the internationally selected Barbarians team on 7 occasions.

His 90% kicking record in test rugby is the highest strike rate by any test player ever.

Braam is acclaimed as one of the foremost kicking experts in the game today. Currently he is the kicking coach for the Wallabies and also consults all the Australian Super 15 teams, as well as several other teams and players.
